I would consider with reluctance to remove or to block anyone. We have developed in our societies a sort of attitude that evidently easily penetrated the realm of the “virtual world”. It seems easy to “throw away, rmeove, ignore, not to respond” to people that keep aside or “private”, at times too much. During my trips abroad, I meet everywhere with those I have been in contact online here or in other social networks or blogs.
Around 1980 (a bit before in some countries) a new socio-cultural tendency appeared: I got it in Germany then and it was the “Wegwerfenprozess = the process of throwing away”: to begin with usual things that had lost their value: a lighter (it started with it), clothes, food, tools, cars and so forth… finally human beings (fired and obliged to leave their work, short term apprehension of “time” – real shortage that makes future an unescapable evolution, without true goals or targeting point. It deloped in short speech, writing, language, sentences, expressions… apparently without real prospects).
Internet may develop “anonymity”, a way to attract people and think they would only leave us if they do not “love us or are in a relationship of any mental style” that can be stopped in a very versatile mood. This is also due to a high level of egoism, egotism, self-centering concerns, usually described as the “single food portion” that appeared during the related period.
Virtuality “enhances and augments” a general feeling that exists in daily life: existence is short, relationships tiny, narrow-minded or based on a short-term. A “click & go” system that is not stable. More than that: it allows the expression of a constant deceit: each person, a self-centered and a group, are born to be deleting and/or act negatively.
Memory has been broken and segmented down. At times, some people would think that the various existing memorizing social systems have blown up. Disrupture of transmission over generations. Lacks of politeness and real correction showed dramatically as factors of mental, emotional, cultural, linguistic segmentation of true knowledge. This is a paradox as compared to the widest abilities at hand at the present to catch and capture data or “elements of culture”. Culture is like working on large fields: it requires to envision and work in-depth, with insights, overcoming apprehension, fears and our own selves. Culture means to sow, cultivate and act on a long-term period. It compels to know about history, i.e. memory and to use skills and competences from the past to forecast eventual growth and enhancement.
I often say in Jerusalem (Israel in general where I normally serve) that I have to be ready to accept, stand and withstand any position or attitude from anyone, without stepping down. Some people would mock and think this is “a poor attitude” and that it is possible to play the fool with me or people who behave in the same way. They just have no brains or do not use them. It is often an advantage because whilst mocking, people show as lost in many ways.
It is indeed a “constructive, up-building” behavior in a society that is in the process of elaboration (it is a living online laboratory of the future). A lot of individuals, groups of peoples have gone through hell and need to test how far patience can be the true weapon or answer to a general system of values relying on relection, negation, non-recognition of the others except “ours”. Though Israel is far more tolerant than other societies – it is not or most rarely described or even “scanned as real”.
This is the Shabbat of comfort, consolation: the Jewish community slowly leaves the terrible kenosis (absence, “emptiness, wiped-out look at various processes of destruction”) and reach the TU be’Av in two days: the day of Love for the Jewish tradition.
A full Moon day (full Moon of Av and July is tonight and tomorrow): the women who were the widows of those who had perished in the desert because they did not believe in the promises to enter the Land, came to Moses and asked to marry men. Not for the sake of love, but for the sake that they had to birth babies and build the future generations. This is quite feminine, woman-like and is most important. Love Day… a day when it was possible to court: not men, but wome nwere running along the fields to find the “right partner”. Love can exist in such a context. Things are more pragmatic: babies not even for themselves as future mothers, but in order to go ahead of history.
Jewishness has progressively experienced through history and memory how “the generation to generation process of transmitting tradition undisconstinuously” also can determine and build love among humans.
Christianity started and continues on these basics and fundamentals.
Freedom is thus a requirement – with and via freedom our relationships to each other – at all levels in all layers concerned – can reach out to show something of the Divine Presence… in all human activities and capacities to understand what we maybe called to.
